As your Council Member, I will:

  • Collaborate with small business owners, law enforcement, and community leaders to boost safety by increasing foot patrols in high-need areas & subways, ensuring a visible and proactive presence where it’s needed most.

  • Install better lighting, reduce scaffolding, improve street maintenance, and advocate for safety measures like subway platform barriers to create safer, more welcoming spaces that naturally deter criminal activity.

  • Recruit more officers from the neighborhoods they protect, fostering stronger relationships and building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

  • Host regular town halls to facilitate open dialogue between hate crime task forces and the community, identifying proactive measures to prevent hate crimes and creating actionable solutions based on residents' input.

  • Ensure electric bikes and mopeds follow traffic laws to keep our sidewalks safe for pedestrians.

Safe Streets and Subways

I’ve seen firsthand, through my work at NYPD Counterterrorism, how critical it is to shape effective safety policies. I understand the complexities of keeping our city safe, and I know that true safety comes from community-based strategies that bring people together.

That’s why I’m frustrated when our leaders speak about safety in vague terms. We need real, actionable steps to protect everyone—from children walking to school to seniors out for a stroll.

That means more community policing in high-traffic areas, better lighting in public spaces, and expanded outreach programs to prevent hate crimes before they start. It also means standing together as a community to fight the rise of bias crimes, including anti-semitism, Islamophobia, and anti-Asian hate, in collaboration with local leaders, organizations, and law enforcement.

We must make sure our neighborhoods are not just safe in name, but safe in practice. This is about making everyone feel protected, seen, and heard.
